LYRICS

For our God spared not the angels
When they sinned and fell astray,
Bound for hell and chains of darkness
To their doom on Judgment Day
There the fire is everlasting
And the worm will never die
There the smoke goes up forever
From their torment, day and night

Fear not them who kill the body
But can never kill the soul
Fear the One who can destroy you
Soul and body both in hell
In a lake of fire and weeping
Where the cursed have sealed their fate
Beyond all imagination
Vengeance from the Lord awaits

We were dead in our transgressions
Children of the wrath of God
But the Father, rich in mercy
Gave His Son to shed His blood
Praise the God of our salvation
For His love which took our place
Sinner, tremble and adore Him
Who has saved you by His grace

THE WORD IN THE WORDS

For our God spared not the angels
When they sinned and fell astray,
Bound for hell and chains of darkness
To their doom on Judgment Day

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment...(2 Peter 2:4)

There the fire is everlasting

“Then he will say... ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (Matthew 25:41)

And the worm will never die

And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ (Mark 9:47-48)

There the smoke goes up forever
From their torment, day and night

...the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night.(Revelation 14:11)

Fear not them who kill the body
But can never kill the soul
Fear the One who can destroy you
Soul and body both in hell

...do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28, also in Luke 12:4-5)

In a lake of fire

...if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)

and weeping

So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:49-50)

Where the cursed have sealed their fate

Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. (Jeremiah 17:5)

Beyond all imagination
Vengeance from the Lord awaits

For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. (Isaiah 34:8)
...when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed (2 Thessalonians 1: 7-10)

We were dead in our transgressions

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, (Ephesians 2:1-3a)

Children of the wrath of God

...and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind (Ephesians 2:3b)

But the Father, rich in mercy

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—(Ephesians 2:4-5)

Gave His Son to shed His blood

Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt...Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied...[and] make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities...he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:10-12)

Praise the God of our salvation

Our God is a God of salvation, and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death. (Psalm 68:20)

For His love which took our place

Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (2 Peter 2:21-25)

Sinner, tremble and adore Him

The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he! (Psalm 99:1-3)

Who has saved you by His grace

[He] saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel (2 Timothy 1:9-10)
...by grace you have been saved (Ephesians 2:5)

DEVOTIONAL

There is therefore now no condemnation.” Romans 8:1

Come, my soul, think of this. Believing in Jesus, you are actually and effectually cleared from guilt; you are led out of your prison. You are no more in fetters as a bond-slave; thou art delivered now from the bondage of the law; you are freed from sin, and can walk as a freeman, your Savior’s blood has procured your full discharge. You have a right now to approach thy Father’s throne. No flames of vengeance are there to scare you now; no fiery sword; justice cannot smite the innocent. Your disabilities are taken away: You were once unable to see your Father’s face: you can see it now. You could not speak with him: but now you have access with boldness. Once there was a fear of hell upon you; but you have no fear of it now, for how can there be punishment for the guiltless? He who believes is not condemned, and cannot be punished. And more than all, the privileges you might have enjoyed, if you had never sinned, are yours now that you are justified. All the blessings which you would have had if you had kept the law, and more, are yours, because Christ has kept it for you. All the love and the acceptance which perfect obedience could have obtained of God, belong to you, because Christ was perfectly obedient on your behalf, and has imputed all his merits to your account, that you might be exceeding rich through him, who for your sake became exceeding poor. Oh! how great the debt of love and gratitude you owe to your Savior! -Charles Spurgeon
