My Lord Was Crucified

You were pierced, stricken
Smitten and afflicted
The Son of Man betrayed with a kiss
You were cursed, beaten
Spit on and rejected
My God, what love is this?

You wore a crown of thorns
You died alone
In my place condemned
Blood from your hands and feet
Poured out for me
Forgiving all my sins

You bore the wrath of God
And died for me
You give and are eternal life
Humbly, You drank the cup of suffering
My Lord was crucified
My Lord was crucified

You were pierced, stricken
Smitten and afflicted
But he was pierced for our transgressions… (Isaiah 53:5)  /  Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. (Isaiah 53:4)

The Son of Man betrayed with a kiss Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" (Luke 22:48)

You were cursed, beaten Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us… (Galatians 3:13)

Spit on and rejected Then some began to spit at him; …the guards took him and beat him. (Mark 14:65)  / He was despised and rejected by men (Isaiah 53:3)

My God, what love is this? This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. (1 John 3:16)

You wore a crown of thorns The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. (John 19:2)

You died alone "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34)

In my place condemned But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Blood from your hands and feet
Poured out for me
Forgiving all my sins
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:28)

You bore the wrath of God
And died for me
Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, … the LORD makes his life a guilt offering…This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (Isaiah 53:10; 1 John 4:10)

You give and are eternal life I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish / He is the true God and eternal life (John 10: 28; 1 John 5:20)

Humbly, You drank the cup of suffering "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."  /  Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?" (Matthew 26:42; John 18:11)

My Lord was crucified as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  /  Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15; Hebrews 5:2)

Glory in the Highest

Once a little child
Now seated on the throne
Dominion, honor, strength and praise
Belong to You alone

Glory in the highest (3x)
Amen

You will wipe the tears
From every weeping eye
For You are making all things new
With longing hearts we cry

Come, Lord Jesus, come
With angels once again
Come, Lord Jesus, come
Then peace will never end
Come, Lord Jesus, come
O Lamb who once was slain
Come, Lord Jesus, come
Behold the Lion comes again

Once a little child For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:11-12)

Now seated on the throne looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)

Dominion, honor, strength and praise
Belong to You alone
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen (Revelation 1:5-6)  /  “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”...“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:12-13)

Glory in the highest (3x)
Amen And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:13-14)

You will wipe the tears
From every weeping eye
He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” (Isaiah 25:8-9)  /  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

For You are making all things new And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:5)

With longing hearts we cry For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15)

Come, Lord Jesus, come The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price...He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. (Revelation 22:17,20-21)

With angels once again (ANGELS AT THE FIRST COMING) you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest..."...the angels went away from them into heaven (Luke 2:12-15)  /  (ANGELS AT THE SECOND COMING) For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done (Matthew 16:27)

Come, Lord Jesus, come
Then peace will never end
Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. (Isaiah 9:7)

Come, Lord Jesus, come
O Lamb who once was slain
And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain...And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne...And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:6-10)

Come, Lord Jesus, come
Behold the Lion comes again
“Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5)  /  until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ...who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. (1 Timothy 6:14-16)  /  And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:10-11)

I Belong to Christ

I am not my own
To my faithful Savior I belong
He loved me to the end
And paid for all my sins
With His precious blood

From my misery
From the devil, Jesus set me free
In great humility
He gave Himself for me
Now for Him I live

I belong to Christ
I belong to Christ
Soul and body
In death and life
I belong to Christ

He watches over me
And in endless joy His face I'll see
My only comfort is
To know that I am His
That I am not my own

Written in 1563, the Heidelberg Catechism is a heartfelt and personal confession of faith. There are many doctrinal distinctives in the statement that various Christian traditions would take exception to, but we think almost every Christian of any denomination can appreciate the simple and beautful introductory question and answer...

Question: What is thy only comfort in life and death?
Answer: That I with body and soul, both in life and death am not my own, but belong unto my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ; who, with his precious blood, has fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father, not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must be subservient to my salvation, and therefore, by his Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto him.

I am not my own Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

To my faithful Savior I belong  and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's. (1 Corinthians 3:23)

He loved me to the end Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. (John 13:1)

And paid for all my sins
With His precious blood
knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (1 Peter 1:18-19) /  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:7-9) / He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2)

From my misery None is righteous, no, not one; (Romans 3:10) / If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:10) / And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) / To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. (Acts 10:43) / Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. (Romans 6:13) / for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:8-10) / Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15) / But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:9-10)

From the devil, Jesus set me free Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:34-36) / Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. (Hebrews 2:14-15) / The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. (1 John 3:8b-11)

In great humility
He gave Himself for me
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (Galatians 1:3-5) / I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20) / And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:2) / Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, (Ephesians 5:25) / For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all (1 Timothy 2:5-6) / waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:13-14)

Now for Him I live For me, to live is Christ. (Phil 1:21) / If we live, we live for the Lord. (Romans 14:8) / There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:1-17)

I belong to Christ (2x) and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's. (1 Cor. 3:23)

Soul and body
In death and life
For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. (Romans 14:7-9)

I belong to Christ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:14)

He watches over me And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day (John 6:39-40) / My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one. (John 10:27-30) / But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3) / who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:5)

And in endless joy His face I'll see No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.  (Revelation 22:3-5)

My only comfort is
To know that I am His
That I am not my own
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
